Picnics, tours and town hall meets—it is a spectacle as the employees of Flexan look at each other with delight. It is the opening of their new corporate office at Lincolnshire. At the front is a proud CEO, Jim Fitzgerald with a sense of excitement and enthusiasm on his face about the company’s new home. “Lincolnshire is the perfect location for us; it had everything that we needed. It’s convenient to both O’Hare and Chicago Executive Airports, it’s near a major rail line, and its proximity to major highways should help provide a reasonable commute for our employees,” he says. As the officials and employees gather around, the ribbon-cutting ceremony begins, marking the opening of another center of excellence. Flexan caters to the end-to-end outsourcing needs for the manufacture of medical devices. With the new location, Flexan is all set to quadruple its previous capacity. The relocation will prove to be quintessential in the company’s expansion in the silicone contract manufacturing market for medical devices. “Flexan will fit in nicely as the area is home to about 700 medical device and tooling companies, with some 50 medical-related corporate headquarters and an estimated 20,000 employees,” states Fitzgerald.
With its expertise as a global manufacturer of custom, high-precision silicone, rubber, and thermoplastic components for a broad array of medical devices, Flexan has always been a step ahead of its competition. The company has been a leader in providing services for silicone and thermoplastic components and devices, which includes, process design and development, development assistance, extrusion, molding/over-molding, assembly, secondary operations, and packaging. They also have been successfully handling the molding of precision rubber parts that has been an uphill task for its competitors to accomplish.
For more than 50 years, we have proven our ability to manufacture complex parts time after time
From developing custom rubber compounds in its lab to molding, finishing, and secondary operations, and sourcing materials and mixing proprietary formulas, Flexan can cater to end-to-end medical device manufacturing requirements through its facilities located in China and U.S. The company takes a very collaborative approach in catering to the needs of its clients, which enables them to leverage Flexan’s technical expertise and industry experience throughout the implementation and delivery process. “For more than 50 years, we have proven our ability to manufacture complex parts time after time. We promise to do whatever it takes to make the part work at peak performance for your application,” adds Fitzgerald.
Flexan also assures the quality of the rubber compounding and molding that it offers by following ISO and other international quality standards and industry practices. Assured quality is weaved by the company at every step of the process by applying its knowledge of best practices in quality. Flexan’s engineers work with each client to determine the best molding or extrusion process, tool design, and manufacturing controls for the application, in keeping with the client’s material preferences and plans for manufacturing and assembly. Newer and advanced technologies are employed by the company’s engineers in its material mixing and molding/extrusion operations, including computer-operated and controlled production.
Having carved a unique niche of itself in the medical device manufacturing marketplace, Flexan aims to make more of the stronghold that is has even in the future. “As we were looking to add capabilities, with the success with a number of projects that are upcoming, we realized we’ve outgrown our space,” Fitzgerald informs. “To facilitate and enhance our ability in serving our customers, we knew we had to move to a new location.”
